Monet´s Light

Art, turning away from an illusion-like reproduction of reality, made it inevitable to transform it in its ideal, as well as formal aspects. Thereby the modern art of the following century was ultimately founded. This kind of art was meant to remain unreserved for the mystical powers of the viewer’s imaginativeness; it could therefore not determine itself to one certain form. This is how Monet’s increasingly abstract and expressive painting technique functions, not merely describing the subject itself but conjuring its appearance. Consequently the meaning of the picture becomes ambiguous, thus averting a last and definite interpretation.
